THOUSANDS flocked into town on Saturday eager to step back in time and soak up the nostalgia of 'Alton in the 1940s'.

Re-enactors in costume and period vehicles brought a real wartime spirit to the event, alongside a children's street party, a 1940s-style fashion show, demonstrations of wartime radio techniques and gunnery, bomb disposal, and wartime dancing.
