A TRAFFIC calming scheme is to be given a trial run in BordonÕs Forest Road - more than a year after safety trials were conducted by police.

The scheme will see pinch points set up along the road leading to the Forest Shopping Centre.

Some members of Whitehill Town CouncilÕs planning and amenities suggested that sleeping policemen would have been a better idea, but town clerk Linda Tiley said Hampshire County Council considered Òrumble stops to be too noisy in residential areasÓ.

After assessing the traffic counts carried out on the road last September, the county council has suggested pinch points be tested.

Once they are in place, the county council will be carrying out constant checks to see if the scheme is slowing traffic.

ÒThe whole point of the proposal is that it can be removed if it does not work,Ó Mrs Tiley said.

It is not yet known when the trials will start.
