TWO Surrey police officers have been presented with an ‘outstanding contribution to roads policing’ award for their work on bringing technology to policing on the roads.

Pcs Dan Pascoe and Ben Hudson received the award at the National Roads Policing Conference hosted by the Police Federation at Hinckley Island, in Leicestershire.

The duo are pioneering use of mobile data terminals (MDTs) and advising on their development.

The vital piece of equipment allows officers to complete forms electronically at the roadside, saving more than two hours of officer and staff time per incident, and enabling them to spend more time in their vehicles tackling crime.

Sergeant Phil Dix, who nominated Dan and Ben for the award, said: “Both are highly motivated proactive officers with an excellent arrest record and a number of commendations for their work.

“They are renowned among their peers for their proactive approach and traffic knowledge. They have some of the highest work rates on their team.

“Both are involved in a number of projects and activities that directly contribute to roads policing and raising their department’s profile both in the public eye and policing world.”

Between them, Dan and Ben have 15 years’ joint service experience and this isn’t the first award the two PCs been involved in either.

They are both regular contributors to the successful Twitter feed @SurreyRoadCops, which won an award for the Best Tweeting Roads Policing Account at the Police Twitter Awards in November.
