A COUNCIL-run training centre which supports more than 1000 unemployed young people in Farnham every year has been criticised by Ofsted.

The government inspectorate has handed Waverley Training Services its second lowest possible grade of 'requires improvement' after a visit in October.

Suggested improvements include raising achievement rates, monitoring feedback and further training of tutors and assessors.

A spokesman for Waverley Borough Council, which runs the centre, said: "Waverley is one of only a handful of councils in the country that offers professional training services.

"There are many success stories out of more than 1,300 young people supported through Waverley Training Services in the last year alone."
