COMMUTERS in the area are now able to travel on local trains more safely than a year ago. Crime on the stretch of line covering Liphook, Liss, Haslemere and Petersfield has fallen by 17.2 per cent in the last six months of 2004 compared to the same period in 2003 according to Network operators South West Trains. The reduction has been seen in the area covered by South West Trains' TravelSafe Officers (TSOs), which extends to all stations on the Waterloo to Portsmouth line. SWT have employed 62 TSO's who work in conjunction with the British Transport Police to reassure passengers on trains and stations. Their work forms part of SWT's commitment to safety and security, which also includes use of CCTV and Help Points.
