WAVERLEY Hoppa Community Transport is on the look out for a new chairman to steer the business through the next leg of its journey.

The door-to-door community transport which was set up in 2012, was put in place to help those in Waverley who are unable to access other means of transport.

Hoppa regularly reviews its strategy and remains firmly of the view that demand for the service is higher than ever.

Steve Forward, general manager at hoppa said: “We know from the conversations we have with our passengers that hoppa provides them with a lifeline. The service means they can be safely picked up from their home and taken to their chosen destination.”

Hoppa enables older residents to maintain their independence for longer, as they are able to make trips into town, attend routine medical appointments and enjoy leisure activities.

Steve continued: “The service provides people with social contact and helps to alleviate loneliness and isolation. After more than 12 years of invaluable service, our current chairman Andrew Carrington has stepped down and we are now looking for somebody new to join us.

“We would love to have somebody on board who can use their business skills to drive us forward, strengthen our partnerships with local authorities and funders and help us to achieve our ambitions.”

The position is voluntary and is likely to require a commitment of two to three hours per week.

Experience of the transport sector is not necessary but enthusiasm, good communication and leadership skills are essential requirements. The chairman will work closely with hoppa’s general manager and the board of six trustees.
