A TRAVELLER group set up camp on Jubilee Field, Milford, on Friday night (July 13) but Witley Parish Council was powerless to get them moved on.

The parish council tweeted just before 9pm to say: “ There has been a traveller incursion on Jubilee Field. Surrey Police have been informed and have visited the site.

“Regrettably Waverley Borough Council do not have an out of hours enforcement service; they will be notified Monday morning and and asked to serve an eviction notice if necessary.”

The Milford incursion followed the arrival of almost 30 vehicles, including caravans, tipping trucks and quad bikes on Bramley Cricket Club’s pitch.

The unauthorised encampment arrived at the club in Tannery Lane on July 2 confirmed Waverley Borough Council (WBC), however according to the cricket club, the first caravans arrived up to five days earlier.

The group was given 24 hours to leave the site but the cricket club feared its pitch had been ruined.
