SOUTHERN Electric Power Distribution embarked on a project to cut back trees threatening an overhead power line in Farnham Park this week.

Workers from the electricity company arrived in the park on Monday to begin a two-week scheme to cut back any overgrowth and minimise the risk of power cuts.

The work will take place between six electricity pylons in the northern section of the historic deer park, and the public are urged to heed warning signs.

A Southern Electric Power Distribution spokesman said: “We do everything we can to keep the lights on for our customers, and to minimise the risk of power cuts.

“As part of this commitment, we carry out a regular tree-cutting programme to prevent trees and other vegetation coming into contact with our overhead lines and equipment, which could cause damage and result in a power cut.

“We are cutting trees away from the overhead power lines in Farnham Park, and all of this work will be done without the need to turn off our customers’ supplies.”

The company has liaised with Waverley Borough Council ahead of the project and, as a gesture of goodwill for the trees that are being cut away, will be donating three lime trees for the council to plant in their place.
