AN appeal to allow four two-storey houses to be built on the Trenchard scrapyard site in Hawthorn Lane, Four Marks, has been dismissed by government inspector Barbara Whitbread following a public inquiry held in the village last month.
Neighbours had turned out in large numbers at the inquiry to support the appellant's case for building houses on the site, fearing an increase in heavy vehicular activity in the lane should the scrap business be bought up and extended beyond its present two-man operation.
