BRIGHT sunshine and a chilly easterly wind greeted the 19 solo riders and tandem pairing who contested Farnham Road Club's 10-mile time trial over the Bentley course on Saturday. The wind helped riders out to the turn, but many lost time on the return.

The fastest solo rider was Andrew Dilkes (Farnham Triathlon Club) in a time of 25mins 09secs. He had nearly a minute's margin over Farnham RC's Rob Clark, who recorded 25-50, just beating the 25-59 of David French (Weybridge Wheelers).

Dave Campbell (Farnham RC) returned 26-06, finishing ahead of a group of clubmates, Ian Howard (27-13), Paul Charman (27-19), Jim Parker (27-30) and Michael Rice (27-49).

Other Farnham times: Roy Newman 29-29, Mike Fricker 30-13, Geoff Newman 30-17, Joanne Fricker 31-32, Chris Newman 33-07, Deana Dibnah 34-13.

The tandem of Andy Weller and Robert Allen finished in 24-07, avoiding punctures this week and allowing the riders plenty of time to relax in The Bull afterwards.

These early-season events are already proving popular and two more Saturdays (March 22 and April 5) will be ridden before the series switches to Tuesday evenings, starting on April 8.

Farnham Road Club's preparations for the National 25-Mile Championship on Sunday, June 8 are well underway.

Farnham are getting a lot of support from other local cycling clubs. The event HQ will be Farnham Memorial Hall and with regulations allowing up to 150 riders per event, Farnham are gearing up for a busy day.

The club anticipate 150 riders for the men's event, probably about 100 for the ladies and 50-60 for the juniors.

The ladies' event will start at 8 am, followed immediately by the juniors. The men's event is scheduled for 2 pm.
