THE Saddle, Sand and Sea double act have just completed their first challenge in their mammoth triathlon – the Race Across Europe, the 2,934 mile bike race across Europe, in 11 days.

Paddy Montgomery and Seamus Crawford (pictured centre), who met at university, are undertaking three challenging endurance events, as they raise money for The Prostate Project and EY Foundation.

Following the Race Across Europe, they will now be gearing up for Marathon de Sables and The Sea-Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge - a 3,000 nautical mile row in 40 to 90 days across the Atlantic, starting from San Sebastiean in La Gomera to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour, Antigua.

Paddy said: “It really was a tough challenge, going across seven different countries, with completely different challenges to overcome. The mountains of Austria and famous mountain passes such as Mont Ventoux and Colle dell’Agnello, and the long flat roads of Italy provide different but equally tough challenges.

“We are allowing ourselves a couple weeks off, but then need to get back into training, for our next event, the Marathon des Sables, the multi-day ‘ultra-marathon’ or ‘ultra’ run in six days over a course of between 150 and 156 (254km) miles.”
