THE driver of a lorry that hit a milkfloat in Alresford killing Allan Knight has been charged in connection with the accident, which happened in July. Gregory Locke, 33, of Cox's Drive, Sholing, Southampton, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and death by driving without due car and attention while unfit to drive through drugs. He was bailed and will appear before Basingstoke magistrates at 9.30am on Tuesday. Mr Locke's 7.5-tonne Dairy Crest lorry collided with the rear of Mr Knight's Unigate Ford Transit in Winchester Road, Alresford, at 4.47am on Tuesday, July 3, as Mr Knight was on his regular early morning milkround. Mr Knight, 53, of Lime Close, Colden Common, near Winchester, was married. Described by his Ropley customers as "an institution", he had been a milkman for 30 years. He served Ropley, Bighton, West Tisted, Bishop's Sutton and Bramdean, but had only just started delivering in Winchester Road. Mr Knight attended Ropley Primary School and Perins. He was brought up in Ropley where he took part in events such as the pram race, and his parents, Vi and John Knight, and brother, David live in Alresford. Mr Knight's twin brother, Stephen, died of a brain tumour three years ago.
