FRIENDS of the 23-year-old Petersfield girl Charlotte Jones, who lost her life when the tsunami struck a tiny island off Phuket, are holding a fundraising event in her memory. Charlotte was on a nine-month break travelling in the Far East when tragedy struck on Boxing Day. She had been in India for a month and flew to Bangkok just before Christmas. She spent Christmas Day on the tiny island of Racha Yai and was on the beach with friends when the tsunami struck. She was due to be joined shortly before the new year by close friend Sarah Tubbs from Liss. This week Sarah announced that she was organising a special charity performance in Charlotte's memory. "The tragic loss of a dear friend and local character has spurred a frenzy and need, by all who loved her, to bring some good out of a devastating situation," she said. With the permission of Charlotte's parents Liz and Allan Jones, said Sarah, all proceeds will go directly to children affected by the disaster in southern Thailand by way of the Save The Children Fund. The Story Box, which is presented by the Openbox Theatre Company in conjunction with Save the Children, will be performed twice in the Assembly Hall at Churcher's College, Petersfield on Friday, February 18, at 11 am and 2 pm. Tickets priced £3 for children and adults, can be obtained from One Tree Books. The show is sponsored by Cheeky Rascals, the Liss children's clothing company where Charlotte worked to raise money for her trip.
