POLICE were called to an unusual sight in Alton after a tuk-tuk – a motorised rickshaw – was pushed into the River Wey at Cut Pound.

Residents heard a commotion late on Sunday and saw a group of men pushing the blue and yellow vehicle into the water.

The vehicle, said to have been made in Thailand, had no engine and no drive shaft. It was recovered from the water on Monday morning.

According to the police, it is thought the vehicle was stolen from a car park behind Cross and Pillory Lane sometime between 5pm last Saturday and the early hours of Sunday morning before being dumped in the river.

Anyone with any information concerning the incident should call Alton Police on 101, quoting reference no 44160256517.
