A DREAM that has been 30 years in the making finally became a reality yesterday when the Hindhead tunnel opened for business.
The spectacular £371m project, which opened ahead of schedule and on budget, was unveiled officially at 10.50am as the first vehicles made their way through the stunning structure's southbound tunnel.
The northbound section of the tunnel, which bypasses the Surrey village of Hindhead on the main A3 road from London to Portsmouth, is expected to be open by Sunday.
