A FRESH plan to demolish former Haslemere Prep School and build 22 new homes has been submitted.

Developer Twist Heights has just gone to appeal following Waverley Borough Council’s rejection of an earlier scheme for 25 houses.

The deadline is Friday, February 28, for responses both to that appeal and a further appeal concerning a plan for four new houses.

The design and access statement supporting the application for 22 houses, including four affordable homes, concludes: “With a significant under-provision in the council’s five-year housing land supply, there is very good reason to grant planing permission on this site without delay.”

Objectors oppose the demolition of The Heights school on the grounds it was built by town resident Herbert Hutchinson, who designed up to 100 individually-styled houses in the town.

Many are on Half Moon Hill and built in the Arts and Crafts style. They say the buildings give the area its special character and unique history.
