POLICE have arrested two people from Hook in connection with an investigation into dodgy £20 notes.
Hampshire Constabulary joined forces with Wiltshire police to carry out a series of raids on April 12. In a co-ordinated operation, officers from both forces executed search warrants at addresses in Hook, Andover, North Baddesley and Salisbury.
The swoop followed a spate of counterfeit currency circulating in the area. Scottish £20 notes have been passed to businesses, shops, pubs and clubs since October 2015.
A 30-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested at an address in Rectory Road, Hook, on suspicion of the production, distribution and passing of counterfeit money. They have been released on bail until June 24, pending further enquiries.
In 2007, four men in Glasgow were sentenced to 22 years in prison between them for similar crimes, with the largest sentence being six years and four months.
