TWO Armistice Day commemorations will take place in Bordon next Friday.

Whitehill and Bordon Town Council, with the town War Memorial Association, will conduct this year’s Remembrance Service at 10.40am, with a two-minute silence at 11am, at the memorial in Camp Road. Those requiring a wreath are asked to contact Poppy Appeal co-ordinator Darron Back on 07758 881961 as soon as possible.

The A325 through town will be closed during the service.

Meanwhile, the Whitehill and Bordon Community Association, with the support of the Royal British Legion and East Hampshire District Council, has organised a service at a Field of Poppies on the green next to the Forest Community Centre. The 1,000-plus varnished fabric poppies - made by schoolchildren, craft groups and community organisations - will be displayed on the green from next Friday to Sunday.

Next Friday, the Rev Deborah Scott-Bromley, vicar at St Mark’s Shared Church, will lead a short service at the church at 10.30am, with the congregation, including Forest Monkeys pre-schoolers and Woodlea school pupils, then heading to “plant” the poppies at the Field. The Royal British Legion and town cadets will be on parade.

* Bordon library invited children to make flowers for the Field of Poppies last Tuesday. The event was organised by Michael Rutland and Cheryl Wright and saw 20 youngsters join in the crafty fun.
