A MARRIED former policeman, who is accused of raping a young woman with a colleague, felt ashamed he had caused his wife so much pain by being unfaithful, a court heard. Pc Mark Witcher, 30, said he and Pc Andrew Lang, 31, were seduced by the woman after she flirted with them, and said she fantasised about a threesome. Witcher insisted sex at the 23-year-old's home was consensual and that he was "amazed it had happened", but afterwards felt only guilt. Witcher told the court: "I deeply regret what I did on that evening and I am also sorry for the way the woman feels now. "It certainly should not have happened." The court also heard that Witcher confessed what had happened to investigating officers, "so I could face my wife and try to save my marriage". Meanwhile, Lang told the court that the woman had initiated sex and afterwards he felt "used" by her. Witcher and Lang, former Surrey police officers, are accused of raping and indecently assaulting the woman in her home while her three children slept upstairs. They deny both charges. The uniformed officers had responded to a 999 call made by one of her friends after she was hit on the head by a man outside a nightclub. It is alleged they then drove her in their squad car to her home in Godalming, where they carried out the attack. Both officers admit sex took place, but claim it was consensual and allege the woman, who had drunk 12 double vodkas, even thanked them as they left. As the defence case began, the court heard that Witcher had been convicted of three counts of misconduct at an earlier trial, and had now been dismissed by the force. Smartly-dressed Witcher said the woman, now 25, became "flirtatious" as they drove her home after 10 minutes spent searching for her attacker. He told a jury at Winchester Crown Court: "I do recall the woman saying she had never been with two police officers before, or words to that effect, which I took to be in jest. "I replied" 'now you can tell your friends you have'. She was laughing and joking. She didn't appear to be distressed or offended in any way." Once they got to the woman's house, she let them in and Witcher said he went to make a cup of tea. He said he then followed her from the kitchen to the lounge. It was here that the alleged rape involving both men took place. Witcher told the court: "There was no violence or force used towards her. We then got ourselves together and left the premises very shortly afterwards. "When we got in the police car, I felt amazement and astonishment that something like that had happened. "I was feeling very guilty that I had just had sex while on duty, and I had gone behind my wife's back." The pair then returned to Guildford police station, where Witcher admitted telling another officer about what had happened. He also confessed to telling a female officer later that he had "got away with murder". Witcher added: "I meant we had got away with having sex on duty." He insisted the woman had given no indication that she wasn't fully consenting to sex. Lang, who was also convicted of misconduct in a public office and has lost his job, told the court he believed he had let himself down by succumbing to the woman's advances. He said: "After it happened, I had a bizarre mixture of feelings. I totally could not believe what had happened, and I was disappointed that it had happened. "I felt used. I can only really describe the incident in the house as something like an out-of-body experience, looking in. "It was happening, it was enjoyable, it was highly sexual, but with the overtone that 'this should not be happening, we are on duty, it is totally inappropriate'." The trial continues.
