Cash's army, as Aldershot are known in some quarters these days, marched to a deserved victory over Newport in the Hampshire Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday.
From the outset, the home side set the pace at the Rec, a full-strength team dominating the Isle of Wight visitors.
In a goalless first half, Aldershot chipped away at the struggling Dr Martens Premier outfit, with Lee Protheroe firing some skilful crosses into the box.
Protheroe himself came closest to breaking the deadlock with a low drive from 35 yards just wide of the mark.
Lending plenty of vocal encouragement, Cash himself looked comfortable with his players' performance.
Joined by a rejuvenated Mark Bentley back from injury, Aldershot cranked up the pressure in the second half and the Newport goal came under a smattering of strikes.
The breakthrough eventually came when Richard Gell miscued wildly, but the ball fell kindly for Stafford Browne who poked it across the goalmouth for an eager Grant Payne to snap up the opener.
Battling against heavy rain, Aldershot kept up the pressure, but Newport nearly snatched an equaliser through veteran manager Guy Whittingham, the former Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday player. His 70th-minute header from a corner struck the upright.
However, on the balance of play, Aldershot deserved a more comfortable cushion to take into the return leg. Ten minutes from time, Browne claimed the second with a deft header from a Jason Chewins corner.
Aldershot: Collis, Parker, Chewins, Kirby, Townley, Holsgrove, Protheroe, Harford, Browne, Payne, Gell. Subs Bentley (used), Kleboe, Watson, Forrester (used), Ashwood.
