TWO men have been jailed for conspiracy to burgle following the theft of a rhino head from Haslemere Museum and conspiracy to burgle supermarkets across the south-east.

Thirty-three-year-old Jamie Channon of Melba Gardens, Tilbury, Essex, and 32-year-old Tony Moore of Ottawa Road, Tilbury, appeared at Guildford Crown Court last Friday.

Channon was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for his part in the burglaries while Moore was sentenced to five years' inside.

The identity of the pair came as a result of information received following an appeal on the BBC Crimewatch programme in September last year.

The rhino head exhibit was taken in an early morning raid on the museum last May.

Detective Constable Dave Pellatt said: "The outcome comes as a result of a prolonged, detailed investigation which involved a number of officers carrying out painstaking work in liaison with other forces and, with the help of the Crimewatch programme, the offenders were located.

"Surrey Police will continue to work determinedly to crack down on cross border offenders and bring them to justice."
