TWO men have been charged in connection with the rape of a woman outside Farnham Library in the early hours of December 9.

Constantin Ionescu, 35, from Farnham, was charged on Saturday, March 2, with one count of rape (joint enterprise) and appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Monday (March 4) where he was remanded in custody.

Nicolae Dragoi, 41, also from Farnham, was charged on Monday with one count of rape (joint enterprise) and will appear at Guildford Magistrates court later today (March 5).

Both men were arrested on December 17 last year after a woman was found unconscious outside the library in West Street in the early hours of Sunday, December 9.

Officers were called at around 12.50am on December 9 after a member of the public found the woman on the pavement.

An appeal for witnesses was launched, and police later released CCTV images of two men they wanted to talk to in connection with the incident.

Following the arrests, Detective Inspector Adam Tatton said: “I hope it is reassuring to the community of Farnham that we have made arrests in connection with this investigation.

“We understand the impact a crime like this can have on a community and would like to thank the public for their understanding and patience.

“We’ve had a great response following the appeal with CCTV images at the weekend which has played a part in progressing the investigation.”
