FORMER Petersfield town mayor Katie Pitt has been awarded an an MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours list for her hard work in the community.

Also in the Queen's New Year's Honours list was Elizabeth Audrey Cartwright, of Liss, who received an OBE (Order of the British Empire).

The district councillor was honoured for services to local government, having also helped set up the Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing, in 2005.
