ALTON University of the Third Age (U3A) has held a successful open day at Alton Community Centre.

Vice-chairman and membership secretary Steve Barnes said: “We were delighted at the response. This year, for the first time, we combined an open invitation to the public to find out more about what we do, with our annual registration day when existing members enrol on courses.

“This proved very popular and as a result we signed up more than 50 new members.”

Mr Barnes added: “We run 43 different activities so there is something for everyone’s taste, all at a very reasonable cost. Members can also go on excursions and visits to the theatre and concerts. In addition, there is an annual holiday – in 2018, this will be to the north-east of England.”

Alton U3A has more than 450 members and in 2018 will be celebrating its 25th birthday.
