SHOPKEEPERS in Lindford are being asked to be extra vigilant over the sale of alcohol after smashed drinks bottles were found in the village playground.
The parish council has already contacted the police about the problem but on Monday agreed to write letters to shopkeepers in the village urging them to ensure that alcohol is not being sold to underage drinkers.
Council chairman Ian Skelton-Smith said: ÒI have found pieces of glass bottles scattered underneath the swings which somebody has deliberately broken and put there.
ÒThey must have been put there to deliberately cause injury.
ÒIt is caused by the young teenagers who sit on the swings swigging drinks and getting drunk.Ó
Shirley Lunt suggested that the parish council hurry along its plans to purchase a shelter for young teenagers to use.
ÒWe should use our developers contributions to provide something for teenagers,Ó she said.
ÒThey are bored out of their minds and need somewhere to congregate.Ó
John Randall pointed out that it will be something which will be examined at the public parish plan meeting on Tuesday.
But Mr Skelton-Smith pointed out that the teenagers drunken behaviour is responsible for NIMBYism and could cause problems later down the line.
He said: ÒIt makes it more difficult because we are more likely to get opposition for new facilities.Ó
