THE University for the Creative Arts (UCA), which has a campus in Farnham, has been named as one of the top 10 most successful universities in the Americas and European region in the prestigious Red Dot Design Rankings.
The rankings, which acknowledge successes in the Red Dot Design Concept awards, name the top 15 organisations in each of the four categories: Universities – Americas and Europe; Universities – Asia Pacific; Companies; and Design Studios.
Red Dot is an internationally recognised design organisation and its awards are among the most prestigious in the world.
Colin Holden, head of the School of Crafts and Design at UCA, said: “I’m delighted that the award-winning work of students from the school of crafts and design has brought the university international recognition in this way.
“The Red Dot Design Concept awards are truly global with more than 4,000 entries worldwide and only a small percentage of winners. For UCA to gain 10th place in the Red Dot Americas and Europe University rankings for 2016 is an exciting achievement.
“It highlights to all our students the exceptional standard they are achieving and continues to raise the level of ambition for the future. I really look forward to seeing our new successes in the forthcoming academic year.”
Earlier this year, two UCA graduates received Red Dot Design Concept awards for work they created while studying for their post-graduate degrees.
Tami Ishida, who completed a master of arts degree in glass (2014-15), was recognised for her Japanese tea ceremony-inspired glass vessels, while Saki Yokota, who completed a master of arts degree in product design (2014-15), was awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best award for her ‘Hoop’ light.
The school of crafts and design at UCA offers a range of specialist courses, including glass, ceramics, silversmithing and jewellery, metalwork, textiles, product design, and hand embroidery.
