HEROES of Haslemere were recognised at a special ceremony held after the annual town meeting.
Founded in 2010, the Haslemere Volunteer Rewards Scheme has now awarded 110 stalwarts a medal donated by Herald owner Sir Ray Tindle.
Nominations are considered by an independent six-strong panel of town residents headed by Haslemere Festival chairman Hamish Donaldson, who decide who are the worthiest recipients. Haslemere Mayor David Round presented the medals to:
* Sheila Carr: Long-serving committee member of the Haslemere branch of the Arts Society and president of the Haslemere and Hindhead RNLI branch and principal organiser of its annual street collection.
* Jan Jeffcoat: Volunteers at Haslemere Museum, Haslemere Fringe, Weyhill in Bloom, Little Lumpy, Haslemere Classic Car Show and The Great War Centenary Project at St Christopher’s Church. She is also a volunteer and trustee at Haslewey Community Centre.
* David Jeffcoat: Associated with the Territorial Army for over 50 years and the town’s Poppy Appeal. Usually collecting at 6.30am at Haslemere Station, he has regularly raised £300 in one session and over £10,000 to date.
* Roger Macdivitt: Chairman of former Haslemere Social Centre, member of Rotaract and Midhurst Rainbows, fundraiser for Grace cancer charity and joint organiser of town prostate cancer tests.
* Frances Reincke: Mastermind of 2018 First World War centenary ‘Haslemere Remembers’ flower festival at St Christopher’s Church. Long serving RNLI committee member and Haslemere Museum volunteer.
