PLANS for Petersfield-based East Hampshire District Council to finally tie the knot with Havant Borough Council have moved a step closer this week.

Questions remained over the future of its current headquarters in Penns Place as estate agents were called in to value the authority building.

"Savills has been asked to ascertain the current market value of the site and suggest a range of options for its possible alternative uses," admitted Richard Millard, district council portfolio holder for assets and contracts.

There is also the possibility that the building could be demolished with the likelihood of new development on the outskirts of the town.
