A FIRE has destroyed an Elphicks delivery van in West Street, Farnham, closing the road in both directions.

The driver noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet of his van and pulled up opposite The Wheatsheaf pub shortly after 2.30pm.

He escaped from the vehicle and within minutes it was consumed by flames, destroying the van and damaging an adjacent building close to the pedestrian crossing.

Two fire engines and the police were at the scene and the road reopened in both directions around 3.40pm.
