LIPHOOK United Veterans have teamed up with a newly opened care home at Bramshott Place, who offered to sponsor a brand new kit for the players.
Club chairman Andy Oxton told The Herald: “This is the first time the Veterans (over 35s) have their own kit to play in – something we have wanted for a long time.
“Up until now we have worn our own jerseys and shorts, looking a bit like a motley crew.
“We are very grateful to Bramshott Grange for their sponsorship and now actually look like a team and not just like some blokes kicking a ball around on a field.
“We would also like to invite residents to come along and watch some of our matches at the Recreation Ground on a Saturday, where they can enjoy our hospitality in the clubhouse.”
Bramshott Grange care home manager Allison Purkiss, who organised the sponsorship deal, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Liphook Football Club Veterans team as we are keen to be involved with the local community and giving something back.
“Residents and care staff thoroughly enjoyed the recent visit from the team members and we hope to have them back again shortly to play a friendly with our staff.
“We are also supporting the club’s youth tournament in June and are developing ways in which our residents can maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
Liphook United FC is holding their 14th annual summer tournament on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 at Bohunt School, Longmoor Road.
The tournament format will be a first round league and then a knockout competition, with the intention that all teams will play at least four matches.
Teams wishing to participate should forward their entry applications by Sunday, June 10.
