CHILDREN and staff dressed in period costume last Friday for a Victorian fete to celebrate 150 years of schooling at Alton Infant School.
Cecil Chandler, a 93-year-old former pupil of Alton Infant School and fondly known as Pop, had the honour of unveiling the commemorative stone to open officially the event.
Headteacher Jayne Broach said: “We were extremely honoured that Pop agreed to unveil our stone, delivering a super speech to boot. The stone will be laid at the front of the school in the autumn term.
“The fete was a roaring success, attended by our wonderful supportive families, amazing children, and hardworking staff.”
As well as the usual fun and games, and a hog roast, this year the fete included an exhibition by historian Jane Hurst to highlight the school’s long past.
Money raised by the event will go toward subsiding educational visits and visitors, outdoor play equipment, and other extra-curricular items.
