THE campaign to reduce the speed limit through Whitehill and Bordon has run into major problems. Following reports last week that the the progress of the Lindford Village 30 initiative has been delayed, it is now feared that Bordon and Whitehill's bid to reduce some of their roads to 30mph is in doubt. Consultants for the scheme, Mott Gifford, announced the scheme may no longer qualify for Hampshire County Council's Village 30mph initiative. County councillor Adam Carew, who has backed the scheme from the early stages, said: "I am totally gob-smacked, that the county council and the consultants have let this scheme get so far before suddenly deciding that we probably don't meet the scheme's criteria.   "I have spent ages on the phone trying to get some straight answers as to why. "All I have received from officers to date is another copy of the Village 30 mph criteria. "I pushed very hard for this scheme to be prioritised along with Lindford and both schemes were agreed as a priority by the county council Hampshire Action Team (HAT) meeting or area committee earlier this year." The scheme had already reached the design stage following meetings between Mott Gifford and Whitehill Town Council to draw up plans. Mr Carew added: "I am now told that due to a time time scale the HATs worked under there was no time to check whether areas agreed for prioritisation actually met the criteria for the Village 30mph scheme. "If that is the case there has been plenty of time before now for this to be checked before we got passed drawing up plans. "I have campaigned long and hard with Whitehill Town Council and residents for Liphook, Walldown and Hollywater roads to be reduced from 60mph to 40 or 30mph and aside from the recent extension of the 30mph along part of Walldown Rd we have never got anywhere. "We have also tried to make Hogmoor Road 30mph throughout, now it looks like we could be back to square one".
