WITH 750 tickets sold out well before the event, the annual bonfire and fireworks night organised by the Holybourne Village Association was guaranteed to be a spectacular success.
Funseekers filled Holybourne Cricket Club’s ground as the first flames of the bonfire, with the obligatory guy on top, began to light up the sky and as fireworks were shooting up above their heads everyone was enjoying a hog roast and plenty of beer, wine, coffee and tea.
The organisation of the evening was shared with the cricket club and the team setting off the fireworks underwent fire training to make sure everything went off with a bang, but safely.
The bonfire celebrations are purely for the Holybourne community which is why they aren’t advertised outside the village. It is not run as a profit-making event, relying on the cost of the tickets to pay for the evening.
Holybourne Village Association chairman David Tomlinson said the evening was “a great success, everything went off safely, everyone had fun, and we are grateful to all those who came”.
* Around 300 people, mainly made up of families with children, flocked to Beech village hall last Saturday to join a torch-lit procession which took them up the hill to the bonfire site, where they were treated to a fantastic firework display.
Villager Ian Dumelow took these pictures of the annual bonfire night fun.
