SIXTEEN or so gardens will be open in and around Headley next weekend as part of the National Open Garden scheme.

The gardens range from old, established ones, such as The Old Rectory with a walled garden and old roses, to more recent ones such as Denmead Cottage with steep terraces for flowers and vegetables, and Churchgate House with summer colour and a herbaceous border.

The gardens will be open on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, from 11am to 5pm. All proceeds will go to the British Red Cross and Headley’s parish church of All Saints. Tickets will be on sale at the church centre, in the High Street, and cost £7.50 (for both days). Children under 12 go for free. Lunch (noon-2pm) and teas will be available, with a raffle and children’s quiz. There is also plenty of free parking in the village.
