A ROYAL engineer who built a lasting relationship with an East Hampshire village has died.

Residents of Liss Forest and Liss have paid tribute to Tony Grant following the pensioner's peaceful death at home on Tuesday after a long illness.

Mr Grant was chairman of Liss Forest Residents' Association and was named Good Villager of the Year in 2011.

The former army major also helped with Christmas events, council projects and campaigned against the closure of St Saviour's.

Liss parish clerk Dick Bowery led the tributes on Wednesday, saying that Mr Grant would be deeply missed by the council for his incredible work.
