A FAR-REACHING and innovative plan for a retirement village on the edge of Petersfield has been unveiled.

The housing scheme for elderly people, the bulk of which is proposed to be built on seven acres of land adjoining Harrier Way, would be known as Durford Oaks. It also includes two former domes to the north of Durford Road.

Plans include 60 independent living units made up of apartments and bungalows, along with a similar number of homes for sheltered-living accommodation and a nursing home.

If given the green light the plan, which is still in its embryonic stage, could bring an extra 120 jobs to the town.
