GRAYSHOTT Parish Council hopes everyone will be inspired to get stuck in when it launches the village’s first community gardening week next month
Chairman John Frankcom said: “We have numerous groups and individuals who work so hard as volunteers to maintain and improve our village that we thought this would be a good chance to celebrate their achievements as well as give the parish councillors an occasion to meet our electorate and listen to their views with regard to our village community spaces.”
Appropriately, the launch of the week (from Saturday, April 8-13) coincides with Grayshott Gardeners’ Spring Show in the village hall from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday week. Everyone is welcome to attend.
At midday on Monday, April 10, Grayshott Pottery managing director Glenn Myers will plant a new village tree in Headley Road to replace the landmark beech that regrettably succumbed to disease, and Grayshott School supporters will be tidying its garden areas and preparing its veggie beds for planting.
Each pupil who helps with the task will also be able to plant a sunflower seed to take home and nurture.
From 10am on Tuesday, April 11, parish councillors join residents to tidy up the village’s community spaces, and at 10am on Wednesday, children aged under 12 and their parents are invited to meet at Lyndon Green play area to take part in an Easter treasure hunt.
From 10.30am to 12.30pm also on April 12, villagers are invited to join councillors for coffee and a chat at Grayshott Village Hall to view an exhibition of the work of the parish council.
Grayshott Gardening Club and the Village Allotmenteers will also be on hand to answer horticultural questions as well, and Hidden Gardens of Grayshott will have more information about the Village Open Gardens weekend in May.
That night Grayshott Gardeners are hosting a talk by Mark Saunders, head gardener of Fittleworth House on how to get good garden photos, at 8pm in the village hall, Non-members are welcome – entry £5.
The week culminates on Thursday, April 13, with an easy 90-minute guided walk around the village centre led by local historian John Childs, starting at The Green’s millennium sign at 10am.
Walk places are limited to 12, but subject to demand a second walk at 2pm is possible.
Pre-book by emailing [email protected].
Volunteers are welcome for the tidy up on April 11 – send an email to the same address.
