PETERSFIELD'S modern spring festival took a distinctly vintage twist on Sunday – as veteran and classic cars converged on the town centre.

Welcomed by the town's deputy mayor, Sue Harwood, the impressive cavalcade led by Herald owner Sir Ray Tindle in his very own 1904 Speedwell Dogcart formed the centrepiece of the newspaper boss's Festival of Transport.

It was the first time the two events had joined together, and funseekers and motoring enthusiasts alike turned out in their droves to see veteran, vintage, classic and modern vehicles gather in Petersfield High Street.

Cars included a 1938 Lagonda V12 Le Mans racing car and an immaculate 1937 Alvis Speed 25, winner of this year's Festival of Transport best in show award.

Mrs Harwood later waved off the stately cavalcade as it made its way through Bordon and Liphook en route to Farnham.
