A HARDY band of volunteers joined The Alton Society for their autumn litter pick.
The society decided that the town would benefit from a second litter pick, held on September 3, after they had taken part in the Queen’s birthday clean-up earlier in the year.
Although the town does get a regular clean up, this litter pick was said to be the “icing on the cake” in that it was possible to clear “stubborn areas” and “concentrate on the cigarette butts populating various nooks and crannies”.
Bob Booker, Alton Society chairman, thanked all those who took part and said “we will be back to do our next one in the spring of 2017”.
“Thanks also to the support from the local authorities with the loan of equipment and the use of the local facilities to put the rubbish,” he added.
