YOUNG volunteers from Haslemere’s St Stephen’s and 3 Counties churches have been busy doing good works for their community.

As part of the churches’ SummerReach initiative to support residents needing practical help, youth teams were out in force tidying gardens for elderly and disabled residents and picking up litter in the town playgrounds, greens, recreation grounds and beauty spots.

In addition, SummerReach hosted a youth event with the support of Dylan’s Ice Cream and organised sports for kids at different locations.

Jack Robson, youth worker at 3Counties church who organised SummerReach, said: “We really enjoyed extending a helping hand to local people, offering fun things to do for children, and making our public places neat and tidy.

“It was great so many people thanked us for what we were doing,” he told The Herald. “Everyone really got into the spirit of doing good. As Christians, it’s all about loving your neighbour and being of service to others.”

SummerReach’s week of community service concluded with a Family Fun Afternoon on Lion Green with a café and kids activities. The event was made possible by support from the Hokey Cokey, Carron Marquees and financial assistance from several local organisations.
