AROUND 50 volunteers braved the weather on Saturday to tackle Alton’s litter.
Organised by the Alton Society, the Autumn litter pick saw helpers of all ages with councillors and MP Damian Hinds lending a hand.
“The general state of the town centre has improved,” Alton Society events coordinator Bob Booker said. “The main problem continues to be cigarette butts.
“Irresponsible smokers fail to see that what they chuck away is litter and contains plastic.”
He added: “We thank everyone: members and non-members, who turned out to help keep Alton a town of which we can be proud.”
