FOLLOWING the launch of the community pop-up garden in Savile Crescent, Bordon, the project is now moving on to its second stage as East Hampshire District Council looks to create, what it calls, a “legacy for the garden”.

It was created as part of the district council’s Healthy New Town programme and a town way-finding scheme, with the aim to make Chalet Hill a more attractive route for walking and cycling and to give residents a nice place to meet and socialise.

The district council is working with Whitehill Town Council, landowner and housing group Radian and the Community Trust to maintain the garden, but it is also looking for volunteers to water the plants.

The council this week thanked for their hard work the residents who had looked after the garden over the summer.

The benches have also been removed temporarily to allow the engraving of the names of the schools which helped to build the garden.

Exhibition boards will be moved to the community garden in Budds Lane, outside the Mustangs building in Bordon.

Ferris Cowper, portfolio holder for Whitehill and Bordon, said: “The garden has been a great success and has gone down really well with residents. “These changes will make sure there is a legacy for the community garden and will help it last as long as possible.

“We also hope that it has inspired residents to try something similar on any vacant green spaces across the town.”
