SURREY Air Ambulance made an emergency landing at Hindhead's Devil's Punch Bowl when a semi-conscious 87-year-old man suffering from hypothermia was discovered by walkers.
It was pure chance the man, who had been lying face down near a path for 12 hours, was spotted as the rainy weather meant the common was almost deserted. But by a huge stroke of luck, Surrey St John Ambulance executive Nigel Alexander was out walking with his wife and found the pensioner.
