PETERSFIELD-based group the Rural Refugee Network is hosting a charity walk in Buriton, near Petersfield, on Sunday in aid of Syrian refugee families in Hampshire.

The two-and-a-quarter-mile walk will be followed by tea and a talk from Syrian Amaf Yousef to be held at the Manor Barn in the village.

Everyone is welcome on the walk and the route is suitable for families, children and dogs.

It is being held primarily to raise awareness of the need to help Syrian refugee families re-settle in our communities. If walkers would also like to help raise money for Syrian refugees in East Hampshire, sponsorship forms are available, and it will be possible to make a donation at the end of the walk.

The Rural Refugee Network walk starts from Buriton pond at 10.45am.

Camilla Bell, co-head of fundraising, said: “This is a very short walk in honour and support of those Syrians who have made much longer journeys fleeing the conflict in their home country. We hope lots of people will join us to demonstrate that people here in Hampshire and West Sussex both care deeply about the millions of innocent Syrians affected by this tragic humanitarian crisis and also want to do something to help.”

The Rural Refugee Network is involved in helping Syrian refugee families re-settle in the UK and is currently looking for additional volunteers to join its team, specifically electricians, plumbers, carpenters, drivers, qualified English teachers and Arabic speakers.

The group is also fundraising to support these families and seeking furniture donations.
