THE Mystery Machine for this years' Liphook Carnival Walk is designed to enable walkers to explore the wonderful countryside surrounding Liphook. The bus, which is named after the bus used by characters in the famous children's cartoon series Scooby Doo departs from The Deers Hut, Griggs Green at 9.30am on September 16. The bus will then drop its cargo of eager walkers somewhere in the local wilderness, where they will be left to solve the mystery of how to get back to The Deers Hut for a well-earned drink. Walkers will obviously be suitably armed with maps and guided by arrow markers and presumably aiming to get away with it 'if it wasnt for those pseky kids'. 'Scooby snacks' and drinks will be provided at various points en-route, to keep everyone going and the route will be marshalled so that anyone can retire, if the ordeal becomes too much. A choice of three routes are available of either seven, nine or 11 miles long. The terrain is fairly easy going and each route provides some spectacular views. Dogs are welcome to join in, although Scooby-Doo himself will not be present and staff at The Deers Hut have promised to give everyone a warm welcome upon their return. The walk is designed to raise money for this years Liphook carnival, for which The Herald will be the main sponsor and there is an added incentive to get more sponsorship money for everyone taking part. A special prize is given to the highest sponsorship obtained for the walk, in the form of a luxurious "Spa Day", kindly donated by Champney's Forest Mere. The prize allows free use of the facilities, a facial, thalassotherapy treatment and includes lunch. Anyone unable to obtain sponsorship can still come along and pay a minimum contribution of £6 per adult and £3 for under 16s. Stout walking boots are recommended for the event, to avoid injuries . Sponsorship forms are available from the following outlets: 12 London Road, Inwood Stoves and Fireplaces in The Square, Liphook Fish & Chips in Headley Road or The Deers Hut, Griggs Green. Alternatively call 01428 723331 to get a form sent in the post. The bus will depart from the Deer's Hut public house, Griggs Green, Liphook at 9.30am on Sunday, September 16, the registration desk will be open from 8.45am.
