THE bravery of two war heroes will be honoured tomorrow with a ceremony around the Cairn War Memorial in Alton at 11.30am.

The event will be presided over by Nigel Atkinson, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, French dignitary Captain Franc¸ois Jean, and Alton mayor Pam Jones.

It will centre around the bravery of 92-year-old Holybourne man and Second World War RAF veteran Cecil (Pop) Chandler, who will be presented with the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur medal in recognition of his involvement in the Liberation of France during the D-Day landings.

Mr Atkinson will also unveil a new interpretation panel in memory of Ernest George Horlock close to the memorial paving stone which was laid in 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the awarding of Mr Horlock’s Victoria Cross.
