Alton’s Spring Beer Festival at Alton College was the 36th since the event started in 2002.

Shifting it to April meant people could make the most of the warmer weather and lighter evenings, socialising with friends and family, and enjoying a range of beers and ciders while listening to live music.

There were 26 beers which had never been to the festival and seven ciders which were new as well. Many local breweries honoured the town’s brewing heritage, along with local cider maker Mr Whitehead.

The festival also welcomed back old favourites, and sponsor Triple fff took over The Leggs’ Inn with a wide range of beers for drinkers to pull their own pint.

On the Friday night local band Belter played an up-tempo mix of songs from the 1970s to today, and on the Saturday Call Me Ishmael were followed by local band Key Lime Pi who closed the festival with everyone dancing away.

The 8th Alton Scout Group ran a barbecue to raise money for the group, and there was also Thai food from Thai Bite.

All profits from the Alton Beer Festival go to local charities, and since 2002 the festival has raised £255,800.

Local charities and good causes looking for funds should visit the charities page at www.altonbeerfestival.org.uk and complete an application form. Applications for donations from the summer festival can be made until May 31.

The festival organisers would like to thank Triple fff, Bourne Estate Agents, local pubs for publicity and ticket selling, and all the volunteers.
