THE University for the Creative Arts was forced to close its Farnham campus last Thursday blaming a "lack of water supply”.

A UCA spokesman confirmed reports that a burst pipe had rendered the campus’s toilet facilities out of action, forcing the closure for health and safety reasons.

Students were asked to leave the campus at 2pm and advised to seek alternative accommodation, which left many students facing impromptu trips as far home as Wales or the north of England.

However, at 6.30pm the UCA posted on Twitter: “The water supply issue at the Farnham campus has now been fixed and the campus will be open as usual tomorrow.”

One student living in halls on the UCA Farnham campus told the Herald they had been without water since around 12.30pm on Thursday, “so haven’t been able to use sinks, toilets or showers”.

The closure caused a run on bottled water at nearby Waitrose in The Hart, while the university also handed out smaller bottles to students.
