THE Mid Hants Railway is on the fast track to success. Not only has the company shown a profit for the last trading year but it is seeking to become the fastest steam line in the UK, with selected trains undertaking the run from Alton to Alresford at 50 mph.

Following a dark hour last March when the mass resignation of several key players on the board of directors was followed by the announcement of an unsustainable £88k loss, the company has picked up a good head of steam and on Friday confirmed a trading profit of £50k for the year 1999/2000.
