The long-awaited opening of a new pump track in North Farnham has been pushed back after unexpected drainage problems delayed construction.

Residents of North Farnham and Sandy Hill had hoped the facility would open this summer, but contractors OnTrack have not yet been able to begin work.

Additional drainage works are required before construction of the track can start, including connecting the facility's drainage to the existing sewer network.

The £130,000 project represents a significant investment in local leisure facilities. The layout will include berms, rollers, progressive hip jumps, a step-up and step-down quad, a jump box and a quarter pipe with fly-out.

Cllr Kika Mirylees, portfolio holder for community services, leisure and EDI, said: “We know how much local residents, particularly children and young people, are looking forward to using the new pump track, so we’re very disappointed that these additional works have delayed its completion.

“Unfortunately, we need to carry out some additional drainage work before construction of the track itself can begin. We’re working to get this completed as quickly as possible and remain hopeful that the new pump track will be ready by the end of this year.

“We are truly sorry this has been held up because of the situation with the drainage, but it is unavoidable. We appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to seeing this exciting new facility open and being enjoyed by the local community.”

Cllr Catherine Powell said: “I am aware that there are some further delays that Waverley Borough Councillors are working hard to resolve.

“Further delays are disappointing but this is a much needed facility for local residents and I am very glad to see it finally being progressed, if slower than I would like.”

Contractors OnTrack declined to comment.
